Home News HALM Qualifying Exam Available in November 2025 Phoenix Newsletter - July 2025 HALM Qualifying Exam Available in November 2025 Designed to recognize the significant impacts of family physicians, the HALM CAQ is available to physicians with relevant training and significant leadership responsibilities that include managing talent, time, and quality in a wide variety of practice settings. July 7, 2025 If you are currently in a leadership role or looking to advance your career in healthcare leadership, the Certification of Added Qualification (CAQ) in Health Care Administration, Leadership, and Management may be of interest to you. Due to increasing interest from physicians across the four co-sponsoring boards (American Boards of Anesthesiology, Emergency Medicine, Family Medicine, and Preventive Medicine), an additional HALM CAQ qualifying exam will be offered in November 2025. Designed to recognize the significant impacts of family physicians, the HALM CAQ is available to physicians with relevant training and significant leadership responsibilities that include managing talent, time, and quality in a wide variety of practice settings. The HALM CAQ: Provides a pathway to prepare you for expanded leadership roles. Provides the portability of a leadership credential to different systems and settings. Tailors your board certification to your current job responsibilities. Physician leaders in community practice, hospitals, large medical groups, integrated health systems, academia, and health policy organizations are encouraged to apply. The application for the November 2025 HALM qualifying exam is now open and will be available through September 29, 2025. The half-day online exam will be administered November 10-25, 2025. Eligibility Family physicians with at least 25% of their full-time equivalent (FTE) hours devoted to HALM activities (including leadership of people, finance/budgets, and quality/data) qualify for the exam. Family physicians with <25% of their FTE devoted to HALM activities will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Examples of administrative positions that may meet eligibility requirements include (but are not limited to): Chief Clinical Officer Chief Compliance Officer Chief Executive Officer Chief Health Equity Officer Chief Learning or Education Officer Chief Medical Officer Chief Operating Officer Chief Quality Officer Chief/Vice-President Quality and/or Patient Safety Dean or Senior Associate Dean Department Chair/Selected Vice Chair Regional Medical Director (e.g., single specialty, multiple specialty, multi-state) Vice-President Medical Affairs Primary Care Service Line Leader Want to learn more about the HALM CAQ?
