If your next exam is due in 2026, registration will be accessible in your MyABFM Portfolio when all your current stage requirements have been completed.

Did You Gain Initial Certification or Complete the Re-Entry Process in 2025?

If you passed the April 2025 one-day exam and gained your initial certification or completed the Re-Entry process to regain your certification, registration for the 5-Year Cycle is accessible now in your MyABFM Portfolio.

We encourage you to complete registration early to ensure you receive the maximum amount of time to complete 2026 Q1 longitudinal assessment exam questions.

MyABFM Portfolio

The registration process features a new, easy-to-navigate interface and takes approximately 20 minutes to complete. You’ll be asked to confirm your personal information, verify your email address and phone number, complete a survey, and agree to the terms of 5-Year Cycle participation.

About the 5-Year Cycle

The 5-Year Cycle is built on the same four foundational components that make up the current certification process, and includes continuous compliance with ABFM Guidelines for Professionalism, Licensure, and Personal Conduct, completion of certification activities, Continuing Medical Education, and ongoing participation in cognitive assessment.

  1. Certification Exam:Answer 25 quarterly exam questions (longitudinal assessment) or opt to take the one-day exam.
  1. Certification Activities: Earn 60 certification points through Self-Assessment and Performance Improvement activities.
  2. Continuing Medical Education: Earn 200 CME credits.
  3. Professionalism and Licensure: Continuously comply with ABFM’s Guidelines for Professionalism, Licensure, and Personal Conduct, which includes maintaining active, valid, and full license(s) to practice medicine in the United States or Canada.
  4. Annual Fee: Submit annual certification fee.
