If you have an exam due in 2027, you can access registration in your MyABFM Portfolio after completing your current stage requirements.

Did You Earn Initial Certification or Complete Re-Entry in 2026?

If you passed the April 2026 one-day exam and received your initial certification, or successfully completed the Re-Entry process to regain certification, you can register for the 5-Year Cycle beginning June 30 in your MyABFM Portfolio.

Registering early is strongly encouraged so you have the full amount of time available to complete your 2027 Q1 longitudinal assessment exam questions.

The registration experience is straightforward and takes around 20 minutes. You’ll confirm your personal information, verify your email address and phone number, complete a brief survey, and agree to the terms of 5-Year Cycle participation.

About the 5-Year Cycle 

The 5-Year Cycle is built on the same four foundational components that make up the current certification process including continuous compliance with ABFM Guidelines for Professionalism, Licensure, and Personal Conduct, completion of certification activities, Continuing Medical Education, and ongoing participation in cognitive assessment.

1. Certification Exam: Answer 25 quarterly exam questions (longitudinal assessment) or opt to take the one-day exam in year four.
2. Certification Activities: Earn 60 certification points through Self-Assessment and Performance Improvement activities.
3. Continuing Medical Education: Earn 200 CME credits.
4. Professionalism and Licensure: Continuously comply with ABFM’s Guidelines for Professionalism, Licensure, and Personal Conduct, which includes maintaining active, valid, and full license(s) to practice medicine in the United States or Canada.
5. Annual Fee: Submit annual certification fee.
