The American Board of Family Medicine (ABFM) is pleased to announce that Kim Yu, MD, FAAFP, DABFM, has accepted the role of PRIME National Strategy Consultant, effective January 1, 2024.

Dr. Yu’s primary responsibility as PRIME’S National Strategy Consultant is to expand the utilization of the PRIME Registry – the largest national primary care Qualified Clinical Data Registry (QCDR) for primary care. Established by ABFM in 2016 to help provide family physicians and primary care clinicians a faster and easier way to evaluate practice performance, PRIME includes a suite of built-in tools designed to improve primary care practice and patient outcomes and reduce burden of reporting for CMS payment programs such as the Merit-Based Incentive Program Systems and Primary Care First.

“Dr. Yu’s dedication, extensive clinical and leadership experience, and passion for caring for patients, advocating for primary care, and the specialty of family medicine, will prove valuable as she leads this important work,”

-Warren Newton, MD, MPH

In addition to her consultant role with ABFM, Dr. Yu currently serves as Director of Health Care Strategy for Korean Community Services (KCS Inc.), a Federally Qualified Health Center for the underserved in Southern California.  She is vice speaker for the California Academy of Family Physicians, and a veteran speaker for the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) on topics such as physician health and wellbeing, health equity, population health, and more.  She previously served as National Director of Clinical and Community Partnerships at Aledade, highlighting value-based care solutions for family physicians and those in primary care, and served as chair of the World Organization of Family Doctors (WONCA) Special Interest Group on Health Equity.

“I am energized by the prospect of working with Diplomates who are participating in PRIME, the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) state chapters, exploring partnerships with additional organizations, and spearheading recruitment efforts for Accountable Care Organizations (ACOs) to participate in the PRIME Registry.  I have been impressed by the functionality and resources provided by the PRIME Registry, and its population health tools like PHATE and Care Gap,”

-Dr. Yu

This dynamic position is at the forefront of healthcare innovation, with a focus on both community well-being and the transformation of primary care practices through ABFM’s PRIME Registry. Ensuring family physicians and clinicians in primary care have access to the usable data and reports they need to care for their patients is at the heart of this work.

ABFM is honored that Dr. Yu has accepted this role as PRIME National Strategy Consultant. We look forward to her strategic and collaborative work with Diplomates and organizations to make a tangible impact on communities through the PRIME Registry.
