ABFM Announces Certification Fee Reductions and Other Improvements
ABFM has recently announced several changes approved by its Board of Directors to reduce the fees associated with maintaining certification, which are effective immediately. The annual fee for ABFM Continuing Certification will remain at $200 per year. This fee has not changed since 2012, when it was reduced from $235 per year to $200 per year. Additionally, new changes listed below offer lower associated costs for participation in Family Medicine Certification:
In addition to considering your financial burden, ABFM has been working to develop alternatives for your certification activities, focused on increasing relevance and reduction in your time burden to complete. As such, we made several updates to our certification programs:
- The Family Medicine Certification Longitudinal Assessment (FMCLA) is now available to all currently certified Diplomates as a permanent exam alternative, beginning the year in which their next examination requirement is due to be completed
- A substantial revision of all Knowledge Self-Assessments (KSAs) streamlining all questions into single-best answer format and updating all critiques and references. The newest releases include Care of Women, Care of Older Adults, and Care of Hospitalized Patients
- The addition of National Journal Club provides convenient access to the latest peer-reviewed articles relevant to family medicine practice and includes the ability to earn certification credit points in small increments of time
- The release of a new Health Equity Performance Improvement (PI) Activity using the popular self-directed PI pathway, as well as a new Health Equity Self-Assessment activity, developed in collaboration with American Academy of Family Physicians.
ABFM is committed to continually improving your board certification experience. We’re proud to be part of a physician community that values the highest clinical standards and remains committed to lifelong learning. The commitment and professionalism that you demonstrate faily in caring for your patients and your community is valued and admired.
