To participate in FMCLA, you will need to complete an application that will be reviewed and approved by ABFM, just as you have done previously for the one-day examination. There is no additional cost for the Family Medicine Certification Longitudinal Assessment (FMCLA) program. You will continue with the same payment plan you selected in your first three-year stage and the same fees will apply.

Stage Requirements

Participating in FMCLA is equivalent to taking the one-day examination. As such, it only satisfies your examination requirement. Regardless of which method you select for your examination, you will need to continue to meet all other certification requirements in order to remain board certified by ABFM. Each three-year stage includes the following activity and CME requirements:
- The completion of self-assessment and quality improvement activities totaling a minimum of 50 points achieved through:
- At least one of the following Knowledge Self-Assessment (KSA) activities:
- At least one Performance Improvement (PI) activity, utilizing practice-level data
- Additional activities to reach a minimum of 50 points. These can be accomplished in various ways, including, but not limited to:
- ABFM-developed Knowledge Self-Assessment activities (KSA)
- Continuing Knowledge Self-Assessments (CKSA)
- Approved Alternative Self-Assessment activities
- Performance Improvement activities (PI)
- Completion of (150) credits of acceptable Continuing Medical Education (CME) (minimum 50% Division I), acquired within each three-year stage
- Continuous compliance with ABFM Guidelines for Professionalism, Licensure, and Personal Conduct which includes holding medical license(s) which meet the licensure requirements of the Guidelines
- The completion of self-assessment and quality improvement activities totaling a minimum of 50 points achieved through:

Application Withdraw

You may withdraw your FMCLA application and switch to the one-day examination on, or before, the final deadline to submit your online application. This can be done through your MyABFM Portfolio. Your fee will simply be transferred from one application to the other.
